Xiaomi set to release new Redmi 4 series in India

XIAOMI'S NEW RELASE
After launching entry-level Redmi 4A in India, Xiaomi is all set to unveil its top-end Redmi 4 model later this month.

Manu Jain, Xiaomi vice president (global), on Twitter confirmed the release of the new variant in May, but the exact date is yet to be out. Xiaomi's Redmi 4 comes in two sub-variants with different system configuration. The top-end Redmi 4 Prime model sports 5.0-inch full HD IPS LCD display and houses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor with Adreno 505 GPU, 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, whereas the generic Redmi 4 features 5.0-inch HD IPS LCD screen, Snapdragon 430 octa-core chipset with Adreno 505 GPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB storage.

Both devices boast of a full metallic body with 2.5D curved glass shield, fingerprint sensor (on the back), a 13MP camera on the back with f/2.2 aperture, LED flash (dual-tone in Prime model), PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus), a 5MP front snapper and a massive 4,100mAh battery.

There is no word on how much the Redmi 4 series would cost, but going by the Redmi 3S series, the new phones expected to be priced under Rs. 8,500

Facebook brings Express WiFi to India, partners with Airtel for 700 hotspots

It called Express WiFi, the new programme, which is a follow up of the banned Free Basics platform, ties up with entrepreneurs to help them set up public WiFi hotspots and helping them provide internet to a lot of citizens in poor or no connectivity areas – the “intent” behind Free Basics platform.

“We were working with ISP and operator partners to test Express WiFi with public WiFi deployments in multiple pilot sites,” Munish Seth, head of connectivity solutions at Facebook’s Asia Pacific region, told HT, adding that now customers will be able to purchase fast, reliable and affordable data packs in four states (Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Meghalaya) across 700 hotspots and 500 retailers. Express WiFi has been deployed in partnership with ISPs AirJaldi in Uttarakhand, LMES in Rajasthan, Tikona in Gujarat, and soon with Shaildhar in Meghalaya.

Examining Reliance Jio's Dhan Dhana Dhan offer, says Trai secratary

NEW DELHI: Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio's latest tariff scheme Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan is under review by the regulator which may also call company's executives for clarification, but only if needed, a senior official said Friday.

"They (Jio) have submitted their new tariff plan to the concerned division. It is under review and we may call them if needed," Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) secretary Sudhir Gupta told ET
